History of the March of Dimes

After conquering polio, the March of Dimes chose a new path, and shifted its focus to the leading causes of death among infants; prematurity and birth defects. Since that time, the March of Dimes has funded many significant scientific breakthroughs, including research that led to the discovery of the PKU test, and surfactant therapy. The March of Dimes has launched a $75 million national initiative to combat the growing incidence of premature birth.

Every hour, 53 babies are born too small and have to fight just to survive. And every hour, 17 babies are born with a birth defect that could kill or disable them. Your participation will help find the causes of prematurity so new treatments and cures can help save babies. As well as support programs that help mothers and health care providers in our community get the information they need to deliver healthy babies.

Inspired by this dedication to improve life in our community, we invite you to the ”Spotlight on Success” 2010.
